Sabonis resigns with Blazers
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Portland Trail Blazers will pay
center Arvydas Sabonis $30.4 million over three years, his agent said.
Sabonis will be paid $9 million this season, $10.125
million in 2000-01 and $11.25 million in 2001-02, for a total of $30.375
million, agent Herb Rudoy said.
Sabonis, who spent the first six years of his career in
Spain, had his best NBA season last year for the Blazers, averaging 16
points and 10 rebounds. In three seasons with Portland, Sabonis has
averaged 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds.
The 34-year-old Lithuanian also played on the Soviet
Union's gold medal-winning Olympic team in 1988. He played for Lithuania
in 1992 and 1996, winning the bronze medal.
