Lithuania 85, Angola 49
ATLANTA (Jul 26, 1996 - 16:11 EST) -- Arturas Karnishovas scored 20
points on 9-for-12 shooting and Arvydas Sabonis just missed a triple
double Friday in Lithuania's 85-49 victory over Angola in Olympic
men's basketball.
Sabonis, who plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, had 12 points, 10
rebounds and eight assists in 23 minutes.
Karnishovas, who played at Seton Hall, and Rimas Kurtinaitis each had
a 3-pointer in the opening 8-0 run as Lithuania (2-2) dominated inside
and outside while taking a 37-21 halftime lead.
Lithuania played its reserves almost the entire second half and
steadily increased the lead throughout, finishing with a 44-25 rebound
advantage. The winners shot 55 percent from the field, including
11-for-23 from 3-point range.
Darius Lukminas added 15 points for Lithuania.
Angelo Victoriano had 18 points to lead Angola (0-4), which has lost
its last three games by an average of 30.6 points. Angola finished
17-for-65 (26 percent) from the field.
